Gyaku Nito Kamae

In Modern Kendo there are usually only two kamae that are used. Both are variations on a theme. Longsword held in Jodan, and shortsword in Chudan.

Gyaku Nito Kamae is with the Longsword in the left hand, and the shortsword in the right. This is the favoured stance of experienced Itto Kendoka who are moving to Nito. This is because they are familiar with the power coming from the left hand (needed for the longsword) and the  thinking part coming from the right hand.

Footwork can vary from left foot forward, right foot forward to side by side. Each of the feet postures has it merit, and use varies upon situation.
